ABOUT LAUGHING LIFE

The heart behind the laughter

My aim is simple: to help people reconnect with joy, playfulness and the simple act of smiling. Because laughter isn’t frivolous, and it’s not a luxury — it’s a wellbeing skill worth practising.

MEET YOUR FACILITATOR

Trained, experienced and grounded

Hi, I'm Vikki, an award-winning wellness retreat organiser and facilitator, and a certified Laughter Wellness facilitator. I bring both professional expertise and lived experience to every session.

My background in wellbeing and community work has shaped a facilitation style that prioritises psychological safety, clarity, playfulness and genuine connection. I understand that trying something new - especially something involving laughter - can feel vulnerable.

That’s why every session is thoughtfully guided, evidence-informed and paced in a way that feels welcoming, respectful and supportive.

MY STORY

From personal discovery to

shared practice

My journey to Laughing Life began during a period of burnout, when I was searching for ways to restore balance. The usual strategies helped, but something still felt missing — joy.

When I discovered intentional laughter practice, everything shifted. Not because it made life perfect, but because it gave me a simple, direct way to calm my nervous system. It helped me move from stress to steadiness, from feeling alone to feeling connected — without having to analyse or explain anything.

What began as personal healing grew into something bigger. I trained as a certified Laughter Wellness practitioner and created Laughing Life to share this accessible, evidence-informed approach with others.

My approach is warm, grounded and inclusive. You don’t need confidence, energy or a particular personality to take part. Whether you join as an individual, a community group or a workplace team, you can participate in a way that feels comfortable and respectful.

Through workshops, events and tailored experiences, I focus on practical strategies that fit into real life. The goal is simple: to help busy, overwhelmed people feel lighter, steadier and more connected — long after the session ends.

Because when we laugh more, we cope better. We connect more deeply. And life feels a little lighter.

THE SCIENCE

Why does laughter work for wellbeing?

The body doesn't distinguish

The benefits of laughter aren't just anecdotal — they're backed by decades of research in neuroscience, psychology, and physiology. Here's what the science tells us:

  • Reduces cortisol (stress hormone) levels

  • Releases endorphins and oxytocin

  • Activates the parasympathetic nervous system

  • Improves immune function

  • Increases oxygen intake and circulation

  • Enhances social bonding and trust

One of the most remarkable findings about laughter is that the body cannot distinguish between spontaneous laughter and intentional laughter. Both trigger the same beneficial physiological responses — the same release of feel-good chemicals, the same calming of the stress response, the same boost to immune function.

This means you don't need to find something funny to benefit from laughter. Simply engaging in laughter exercises activates these healing responses, making it an accessible practice for everyone.

Stress melts away

Laughter naturally relaxes the body and signals to the nervous system that it’s safe to let go. Muscles soften, breathing deepens and stress hormones begin to drop.

Even a few minutes of intentional laughter can shift you out of “fight or flight” and into a calmer, more regulated state.

It’s one of the easiest ways to release built-up tension — no equipment, no experience, no effort required.

Real connection

There’s something deeply bonding about laughing together. Shared laughter breaks down barriers, builds trust and creates a sense of belonging almost instantly. It reminds us that we’re human, imperfect and in this together.

Whether it’s in a group session, workplace or community setting, laughter helps people feel seen, included and connected — without needing to talk everything through.

Mood lifts

Regular laughter supports emotional resilience by boosting mood, perspective and optimism. It helps people bounce back more easily from stress, feel more balanced and approach challenges with a lighter mindset.

Laughter doesn’t remove life’s difficulties, but it does give you more energy and emotional space to handle them. And often, that makes all the difference.

MY APPROACH

Values that guide every session

These principles shape how I create space for wellbeing through laughter.

safe and inclusive

Every session creates a space where all bodies, abilities, and comfort levels are welcomed and respected.

non performative

There's no pressure to be funny, outgoing, or even happy. You participate at your own pace.

focus on connection

We prioritise genuine human connection over performance or entertainment.
